WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?
30.6.15
If you've been reading this blog for long enough you'll know by now that I do love my docs. So when I was contacted to contribute to Dr. Martens' #StandForSomething campaign, I thought why not?
But before I do that...
Say hello to my new hair. You've probably seen it already if you follow me on Instagram. Almost everyone thinks it's real and I wonder to myself if they didn't see my real hair a month ago? My landlord knocked on my room door and flew backwards when he saw me. His comment? "Whoa, your hair has grown!". I didn't have the strength to explain to him that I've got extensions in. My hand is constantly in my hair because the wind keeps blowing it about. Stressful.
Location. I was going to shoot photos here a while back when I bumped into Chinwe so I helped her take photos for her blog post. I decided to use a different location that day - photos coming soon - but when I put this outfit together, I knew that I had to return here to shoot these photos. I love how it complements my outfit. View more photos of this outfit on Tumblr. I had fun shooting it! Also, check out this outfit gif. Outfit details are at the bottom of the post.
So what do I stand for?
I stand for being yourself. I am eccentric with a pinch of quirky but I would not change that for the world. I make "the weirdest" comments sometimes and do "the weirdest" things but that's just the way I am. You'll randomly catch me twerking in city centres, attempting to breakdance in libraries or singing and dancing like the cast of Beetlejuice in this Day-O clip. Sometimes I feel like everyone's trying to be the same thing. It's nice to be different. Just relax and do you. In a way this translates to being confident. Don't be scared to be who you are. Do what you want. Wear what you want. Don't let people's opinions or comments get to you. Believe in you.
I love that the Dr. Martens brand is for people who aren't afraid to be bold with their footwear choices. Check out their tattoo range and my favourite, the Adventure Time range for kids! I would totally wear the Jake D boots if they were available in my size.
I stand for investing in quality rather than quantity. You all must be tired of me preaching on about this but it's true. In everything you do, from the friends you keep to the things you buy. I preach this in almost every post. Quality first! I hadn't bought proper sandals for years because I wanted to get ones that would last. If you've owned a pair of docs, you'll know that they last forever if you take proper care of them. I'd been eyeing the Clarissa style for over a year now and finally gave in and bought them two weeks ago. I read a few reviews and got them a full size smaller because I remember my real size being a bit too big when I tried them on last year. They've been hell to break in but they're totally worth it. The white leather rubs off on my skin, that's why my feet look ashy.
There are days when I backslide but really, "Quality before Quantity" is the motto. Aim to get the best quality that you can afford.
I popped into the Cardiff store and Allison, the manager was a pleasure to talk to as always. They really have got amazing leather bags and satchels at the moment. My wishlist is growing everyday.
